Eight Things
Everything in my life is going well as of late! Let me count the ways what happened over the past two weeks:
- On Friday last week, I got a surprise from Facebook and it was something I won’t forget for a very long time. Guess what? I GOT INTO GREEN AND WHITE, DLSU’S OFFICIAL YEARBOOK PUBLICATION! I learned I got into the literary committee (first choice) when the section editor added me to the FB group accompanied by a warm welcome message. Teehee :“> This was a bit unexpected because I was sick when I took the exam in February, the questions were nerve-wrecking, and as the seconds passed my confidence was slowly diminishing. Nevertheless I guess it’s my destiny to work for the University’s yearbook as part of my personal accomplishments in addition of living my dream to work for a publication. In a span of two months in 2013, I got into two organizations just when I thought my college life is a bust following The Lasallian and LAMB 2K13 fiasco. In light of those turndowns late last year, I am thankful I finally found place to hone my talents. At least I could write for a big time Lasallian publication before I graduate!
- Tomorrow will mark the start of my mini-vacation which ends on Monday. Right before I head to Cavite tomorrow to spend the Holy Week with my grandparents and cousins, what’s more relaxing than spending the whole day with your friends and completing your requirements? In the morning, I passed our STATLIT magazine group project followed by some chilling time at The Coffee Bean with Monzie! Today I also heard Angus and Julia Stone’s Big Jet Plane and Birdy’s cover of Skinny Love over the speakers for the first time outside YouTube and my iTunes playlist. Randomly while Big Jet Plane was playing in The Coffee Bean, I saw this uber cute geeky guy outside walking along Mcdo. Mehehehehehehehehehe =)) After that, I had free cut in STATLIT so I met up with Kevs, Sofia, and Tisha at Tori Box - which leads to the third wonderful thing.
- Am I the only Lasallian who has never grabbed a bite at the famed restaurant in One Archers until this afternoon? I hope not! Subsequently I ordered their legendary Chicken Kara-age in Italian Cheese flavor and rice. I don’t regret shelling out P85 for the meal because it was delicious and worth the price! So to all future Lasallians and friends, your stay in Taft will not be complete without eating at Tori Box! Otherwise I advise you to count sheep in a corner (corny I know). Lol kiddin’!
- Thursday morning last week was just as fantastic! In the morning when the LRT stopped by Quirino, I stood up from my seat to see Migo and Mackii (in shades) who were surprised to see me inside the train. Once we arrived at Taft, we accompanied Mackii at Mcdo for her breakfast then Russ and Noreen came met up with us a few minutes later. To quote Migo, "Uy, GENDERS reunion nga ito!” Our GENDERS class bonded so much until now we still miss each other. Obviously I am the odd man out because the four of them are in Development Studies while I’m from Comm Arts :)) In the thirty minutes we stayed at Mcdo our topics ranged from Noreen poking fun at Migo’s Ocean Park-worthy shark hair to their class trip in Thailand for this year’s Holy Week Vacation. Thank you to the four of you for making that morning hooray for today indeed!
- Watched the Harlequin Theater Guild’s production of The Sky Over Dimas on Thursday night! A plot involving haciendas were never my thing, but the whole cast made it watchable through their high-caliber performances. Truth to be told I also watched the play as an incentive for my TREDTRI class in due part to my goal of receiving a 4.0 at the end of the term.
- If you’re my Twitter and Instagram follower, you should have seen my photo with dad fresh from his arrival taken two weeks ago. Our family celebrated Lolo Manny’s 67th birthday one day in advance through a lunch at Flavours of China on March 10. Meanwhile on March 15, a day before dad’s return home, we spent the whole afternoon together strolling around Robinsons Midtown complete with lunch at Kenny Rogers and dinner at Steak Escape. For several times he emphasized one of his rare times to ride the LRT that day. Overall, Dad’s visit was short but at least we got to spend time together!
- My Twitter timeline will not be complete without love-related retweets! As tonight’s food for thought, who agrees with me that nothing feels better than your object of inspiration smiling, talking, and hugging you? :)
- I have a new nickname: The Strange. It all began in PHILOPE last Monday when we had a class discussion of Heidegger’s death philosophy. I shared my experience on how my school bus used to enter the La Loma cemetery back in Prep, my resounding habit of looking up cold cases and Hollywood crimes, and my Black Saturday insomnia following the news of Rico Yan’s untimely passing in 2002. With that my classmates erupted in laughter and Dr. Garcia remarked, “Oh my, you’re so strange!” Thus, a new moniker was born.
P.S. Tisha finally uploaded the rest of our LEAP 2K13 and U-Week photos just last night! I will be posting them in a future post.
Advanced Happy Easter everyone!

TV MEME: [5/5] Female Characters - Cassie Ainsworth
Do you know what hurts most about a broken heart? Not being able to remember how you felt before… try and keep that feeling, because… if it goes… you’ll never get it back.

This Week in Photos: March 2-8
First Row (L-R)
Photo 1: I downloaded the imadeface app thanks to Mariae’s recommendation when I asked how she made her Twitter DP. One word to describe this…wait for it….LEGENDARY!
Photo 2: Guess whose birthday we celebrated last March 2? That’s right, my one and only lolo Jojo who turned 66 on that day! I am so blessed to have a grandpa like him (aside from lolo Manny of course) who served as my second dad while my parents are abroad. Thank you so much lolo for everything! Love lots xoxoxoxoxo <3
Photo 3: My outfit for our family dinner at Chinatown Banawe to celebrate lolo’s birthday! Conversely it was our first time to dine there in six years so imagine how mystified we were when we saw the new and improved modern look of the restaurant! Pastel colors embellished the ambience of the relaxing look and feel in every corner of Chinatown. In related news, nostalgia was in the air the moment our taxi passed by STC. A little fact for all of you: that day marked the first time in almost two years I got to see my alma mater in the flesh one more. I haven’t entered the campus since the yearbook distribution and IV-3 reunion in September 2011.
Second Row (L-R): What we ate for lolo’s birthday dinner!
Third Row (L-R)
Photo 7: Me, tito Charles, tita Petty, tita Badette, lola Cora and the birthday boy lolo Jojo in a family photo!
Photo 8: On the way to Chinatown, tito Charles and I got vain. As for the subject of my red lipstick, I quote my lola: “Kamukha mo si Anne CORTIS hindi si Curtis!”
Photo 9: Dad’s iMessage reminding me about lolo Manny’s birthday weekend tomorrow and on Sunday!
A quick update: I will be heading to Cavite the whole weekend to celebrate lolo Manny’s 67th birthday! I cannot wait to find out who’ll pick me up tomorrow morning.
Last Thursday, on the same day I found out I passed AB-CAM, I got a text message from Green Giant FM to inform me of my acceptance as the newest member of the Creatives committee! The following day was the GA (general assembly) and it turned out great. Looking forward to my future tasks as a Creatives member! Currently I am stoked for the results of my Green and White 2014 application after the interview with one of the editors last Monday.
