Happy Birthday To........

It’s my birthday today…..KIDDING!

Actually, it’s a beloved relative from Australia whose birthday is today. My Tito Berns is turning 35 on his special day today! This morning, my tita woke me up with a noise. “Candice, maglaro ka na!” because of a promise my Tito Charles made that I can browse the Net for long. He was going to a college since he’s going to transfer from UE.

So down I went from the room. I turned on the computer as quickly as I can and sent a message to Tito Berns via Friendster. Since he didn’t want any birthday comments on his page, we decided to send him a PM instead.

To him, have a Happy B-Day!

Separated at Birth?

I’m just wondering about this thought since American Idol 7 started. Although some of you might not agree, in my opinion AI finalist David Archuleta and suuuuuuper-cute ASTIGS star Martin del Rosario are long-lost brothers. Since I love MDR’s looks, I always call David as “Martin” or “his long-lost brother”. So here are the pics, that’s just my opinion!

Mind Ramble of the Day: Lemons for Lemonades

I just read this wonderful post from a blog nominated in the 2008 Candy Teen Blog Awards. It’s called “Lemons for Lemonades” and it tells about the real purpose of life. The girl’s mother passed away about two years ago so she made a personalized tribute for her. Hope you keep on reading this because it has a significant message. So here it is:

Lemons for Lemonades
Credits to: http://kudoz.multiply.com

They say
“When life gives you lemons, make lemonades”
Who ever said that was a very practical person…

Lives of most people aren’t always ‘all that’
Being unpopular growing up
Being 'forgotten’ to be invited to parties, gimmiks
In short…

Feeling like an outcast isn’t exactly a 'walk in the park’

Having people around
Just because…

Those are few of the lemons
That we all had to deal with growing up

Making it to where we are isn’t at all easy
Ever heard of the saying
“So near, yet so far”??
Well..that’s how it was…

You feel that you could change it all
With a crash diet here
And cheating there
And not to lies here and there…

Bearing that thought in mind…
It’s difficult for most of us to keep composure…

Could you imagine…
A person having those to deal with
And at the same time a mom who goes
In and out of the hospital??…

As a result, having less time for
The 'usual things’
A 'normal’ teen would be doing at her age

Instead of going out
Making mistakes
Meeting a lot of new people her age, she has been too busy..
Too busy in fact because she was caring for a person that loves her dearly
And she never even realized it until it was too late…

'Make everyday count’ a lot of people would say

You only get one lifetime and live it well…

At a young age, it’s difficult thinking that
Your own mother is at home sick…

And could not even stand up nor even sit down by herself
She would need to have to go through a lot of complications
Just to sit down for 5 measly minutes…

Those lemons were all really tough

It cost so much..

Just to make them into lemonades…

Just to be accepted by the 'in’ crowd,
You have to be like this and that…

For being even noticed by a guy
You have to be like this and that…
And along side it are rumors you cannot help but have

And of course…

Last but not the least…

Losing a loved one…
Soo close to your heart…
That you never even told her
How much she meant to you
Until she was gone…

See how 'lemons’ can sometimes
Make you feel like giving up??

Looking back
At the end of the day…

Be thankful…
Somehow…
You made that pile of lemons smaller..

0h and by the way….
Those were my lemons….

The title says it all. It means that life is just like lemons. The lemons symbolize our life and lemonades on the result of our doings. And like as it said, we must live to the saying “Make every minute of your life count” because we do not know what the future may hold. We may not know if the next day we’ll lose a treasured posession that we refuse to let go or the most painful of all, we might leave Earth in a second or so. .

When we are making the “lemonades”, we must not do it only to gain acceptance and popularity. What we need is respect. If popularity is the only thing we matter, then when we make a mistake we will lose the reputation that we have built. But if respect is your focus, it will stay for the rest of your lifetime. Unfortunately in our cultural standards, popularity weighs more than respect. We think that if we’re famous it would be easier for us to be a hundred times wealthier, more loved, happier with our life. But in reality, respect is way better. With determination and hard work in our hands, everybody will admire you for the journey that you have passed. Just like lemonades, we all have a rocky road to pass before turning to success.

In everywhere we go, there is the pressure. We are pressured to be cool, be part of the “in” crowd, and pretending to be someone we’re not. Growing up is a stage of discovering ourselves. We know more about our identity. First we are bitter about ourselves, second we question our identity, then you start to see the good things in yourself, and lastly you accept for who you are. So is life. Making our days worthy is the best thing we can do in our life. Do not just mope around and make a thousand wishes that you can’t do. Believe that you can reach your greatest ambitions by starting out from scratch. And that’s how lemons are like before turning into the freshest and most delicious lemonades.

Weekend Rumble

Last weekend was a blast.

This was the first fun weekend ever since Dad’s visit three weeks ago. Last week was very dull, with I and Mom saying to each other the famous phrase “Broke again”. What did it meant? No window–shopping, no visits to SM San Lazaro, no fastfoods, and definitely no air-conditioned malls. Sounds boring if you ask me.

Then this week could have been so much better. I finally got my copy of this month’s Candy Magazine and I love this issue! On the day I got it, I quickly went to the page where the ad for the Council of Cool auditions was posted. In order to get in, all you need is to submit a brief essay convincing why you should be part of the next batch of COC. I want to send a copy of the essay to Dad via e-mail then he will proofread it. Although the deadline will still be on June 30 I am not wasting my time just moping around and have a useless summer. Think of imaginative ideas so that your essay will make it in the editors’ list. One essay is not enough. Try your best, make a hundred essays, have a parent or friend check your spelling and grammar, and collect some enthusiastic ideas for your entry. Who knows, if you do all of them then you might just receive a call saying that you got the opportunity of a lifetime. And that’s the thing that I’m wishing for this year!

So let me tell you how Saturday and Sunday went:

Saturday: hopped to the mall and we had fun. The main part of the day? Download 20 more songs and 2 new games on my PSP. Woohoo! Double the fun time with my beloved possession.

Sunday: Mom’s on bank duty in the Divisoria branch of Asiatrust. Her duty was at 1 pm so we had three whole hours of mall-hopping. When she was already on duty, I just browsed on Odyssey and NBS for about 90 minutes. Seems like I have another thing to add on my wishlist: the book entitled Secrets of A Hollywood Star because the summary is interesting to read and makes you want to buy it. The plot tells a fictional Hollywood celeb uncovering the secrets of the limelight and what is it like to be horded by the paparazzi following your every move. And the nut of them all, the dirty little secrets of celeb “friends” who pretend to be BFFs but they really aren’t.

That day I got a VCD of the 2005 film Jarhead, starring (sigh) Jake! The movie was really good although some of the scenes were a bit boring to watch. But if you’ll watch the movie, make sure you’re with an adult. And advice: please do not watch the Santa dance. I didn’t see that part! Rating for me will be 3.5/5 stars. It would have been 4 if there were no “scenes” there. But I was way impressed with Jake’s superb acting. He should have been nominated or won an Oscar for Best Actor!

Next entry of this post will be another Mind Ramble from me! :)

Mind Ramble of the Day: Getting a “Look Job”

It seems that my freshman year became the ultimate makeover of all. Back in grade school, I was fashion’s worst nightmare. I hated wearing my hair down and I was chubbier than I was now. Unlike my schoolmates who started to talk about style and the “ins” of the year, I was thinking only of nothing but creative writing and reading. Everyday my school look was a ponytail with messy bangs sprawling on my forehead and round, fat glasses. If now I always smile, back then I rarely ever smiled. Talk about being a girl who used to hate makeovers.

Then when I entered HS it all changed. Haircuts were at least after 5 months. I changed my hairstyle from time to time. My eyeglasses changed from round fat to solid square. Now I cared not only my interests but also my social life. So that’s how time goes. Do you know why I entitled this post as “look job”? Having a look job means having an extreme makeover of your features, style, and your personality. It makes you from boring to fab. We all love having makeovers as long as it would change us for the better. In my opinion having a look job will range from haircuts to plastic surgery. Aha! Plastic surgery is one of my plans in order to have a slim figure, a quirky nose, and a gorgeous face. Every person has a wish to look like the seemingly perfect celebrities who we think never get acne and cellulite that we want to change our looks. So call a respected cosmetic surgeon like Dra. Belo, whip up your money savings, and get your desired plastic surgery! Then after a week, everybody will compliment how pretty you are, get those opportunities of a lifetime, and be happy with who you are forever. And that’s how a look job would work for most of us.

It was always my dream to be called “pretty”. Deep inside me, I always think that I am ugly with the looks I have. But it lightens me up whenever someone compliments me that I am cute! From the reco letters to the compliments of my schoolmates, they called me pretty cute but never gorgeous. Oh well, at least someone said that I am beautiful inside and out. Besides, not all of us were blessed to be called by these names. Let the light shine! Haha.

All of us are beautiful in our own ways. Whether it is with our looks or our personality, we’re ALL beautiful. But not all of us haven’t realized it yet. Even me. Until now I get sad whenever I see female kid celebs especially ranging from 10-12 yrs. old. Whenever I see them on TV, I always feel a sense of envy because they get those acting opportunities and get famous while I’ll be stuck as a regular girl in an infinite time. My mind is always saying “I wanna have plastic surgery!” but the time hasn’t come yet. The dream might fade in the future because I’m still at the beginning of teenhood and I still have a lot way to change my appearance. No wonder, I might be slimmer, taller, and (sigh) prettier. In positive thinking, my dream of being a Candy covergirl won’t die if I work for the COC soon (I’m going to audition there so wish me luck) and star in a leading role either in a highly-hyped stage play if I have the time and chance.

What A Boring Week...

Overall, I hate this week except for Monday. It was wayyy boring. Nothing to do. Here are the reasons why:

-I only get to stay at my Lola’s house in Banal today. The last three days were spent at my Lola’s house near our house.

-At my Lola Glo’s, the Internet connection was so slow that I could have full access to my fave sites after about 5 minutes. But YouTube was a bit fast, though.

-PSP-Internet-Sleep for two times. Enough said.

-This could have been Health Week. Yesterday was yummy cause it was mussels, chicken feet, bangus, and mango for lunch.

But now, I may want to resurrect. Tomorrow’s the weekend and I’ll be having fun again. Haha! ♥

New Found Talent

Yes, I might have discovered a new talent. I guess 40% of Manila’s teenage population knows how to use Photoshop. Six months ago, I wasn’t one of them. The months finally flew by and now I learned to edit my photos, make animated avatars, change the colors of pictures. Yesterday, I was also planning to change the background of my blog layout by creating a custom one using Adobe Photoshop CS2. I am not done yet because I edited the photos that I will put in the custom BG. How to do it? I browsed for some photos of “vanity fashion” in Deviantart and those photos were really cool. So here it is, an example of my edited photo:

I guess this is not bad for a beginner like me. Evaluation? 8/10, to be honest. The brushing of the pic is not that perfect, but I find it creative. Overall, I like the pic! That’s a little sneak preview of my planned blog background. And BTW, credits to Deviantart for the picture.

4.02.2008

I’m bored right now.

Nothing to do, except listening on YouTube and looking on my favorite sites. I got my new blog layout, perfectly fixed for around an hour. Then my blog profile is updated, but still has to make a profile pic. And I want it animated using Photoshop like I used to do. One thing: I wrote something in my profile (if you read it already) that currently I am into
Jake Gyllenhaal and Martin del Rosario of Star Magic Presents’ ASTIGS. Don’t laugh at me for liking a Hollywood heartthrob who got popular after Brokeback Mountain and a rising teen star who is proving his acting talent right now. So now, let me tell you the reason why I am into them right now.

As of Jake, in my opinion he is one of the cutest stars in Hollywood. Plus, he has good looks and yet can act. He deserved the Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor and the awards he won because of his tremendous performance in BBM. I don’t know how I liked him at first, I was just reading a Wikipedia article about BBM and I didn’t know who was Jake then. I even pronounced his last name as “Gee-len-haal” but now it’s “Jill-en-hall”. Then there came Proof.

Searching for my old DVDs, I suddenly took a glance on the DVD of Proof, and his name was on it. So one Sunday, while my mom was sleeping, I popped out the disc and watched the movie. It was the first time I got interested in his good looks. My mind was almost falling out of my brain. I was listing my ex-Hollywood crushes: DiCaprio and Hayden (of Jumper), my crushes on Justin and two of F4’s members but I hated Vanness) Wu when I started to like two good-looking wrestlers. Champ of Hale and Kean of Callalily are sort-ofs, but I find them cute too and have voices that rock the crazy world. And now, the list might be added with the name
Jake Gyllenhaal. I was thinking, “Okay. He’s cute rin pala!” From that night on, I repeated watching Proof and one night mom caught me watching it. She asked me what were Jake’s movies aside from BBM. I told her “Proof”, then she learned that the reason why I watched it was only because of him. The rest was history. So right now, I am almost at the obsession level. Now I want to watch his movies and I always search his videos on YouTube. I get furious when I read messages saying that Jake is ugly. I always go to his fansite and check out his gorgeous face in photos. I often think of his face at night. That’s why you can see that I made a post and asking all of you if you find Jake good-looking. If you said yes, thank you!

So here he is again, the most good-looking star in Hollywood for me:

Martin, like Jake, is also relatively unknown but popular among the fans of Abt Ur Luv and ASTIGS. I don’t care even if the people are saying that he’s girly, as long as I adore his cuteness and rising acting talent. Thank goodness Star Magic pushed him and gave him a great part in ASTIGS this season! I didn’t know how did I like him, but deep inside I was searching for him always at Abt Ur Luv. When the ASTIGS trailer was first released, I noticed that he was not there. My heart sank…ugh. But in the Pilot episode, where the Astigs group were singing, I JUST SAW HIM, flashing that adorable smile! I was like, “OMG!” and I said to the TV, “I heart you, Star Magic! You put Martin in the cast!” And here’s another fun fact about him: I’m a Theresian and he’s a Lourdesian, Martin and I also like writing essays, and we study on neigboring schools! But the big difference? He’s an honor student but not me! Hehe. I hope he comes to our school anytime in our special school events so I could see him in person and see how Theresians love the show! I want to see him as a lead star getting a push but not make him overexposed that the people start to criticize him. Now I present to you one of today’s cutest teen stars who DESERVES his star to shine!

I might want to sigh right now….
