I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter
Now I met you
And honey you should know
That I could never go on without you
- Coldplay, “Green Eyes”
This song has been on repeat since last night while I was reading blogs like I usually do every time I am bored of reading tweets and recent activities on my live feed and when there’s nothing interesting to watch on YouTube. And whenever I am in the mood, I would hunt for new music to listen and enjoy to. Nothing really substantial happened this week except on Wednesday, so I’m going to keep you updated by sharing about my participation in a poetry reading of Dr. Cirilo Bautista’s The Trilogy of Saint Lazarus.
Last Wednesday, I was tasked by my HUMALIT professor to read Act II of Telex Moon, one of the poems in The Trilogy. The poem is all about the persona’s profession of admiration for Josephine Bracken. How many men nowadays still declare their love for a woman in a form of literature with metaphors making it a charming piece to read? If I were Josephine Bracken, I would want to have that man as the cherry to my black forest cake. The day before that, Kevs and Tisha were helping me recite my poem while they practiced with theirs too since they themselves were performers of Telex Moon excerpts. They were giving me soulful advice such as avoiding to sound monotonous and to eat up the words like a big blue whale eating up Jonah. When the day came, I was itching in my pink kimona; however, I had no choice but to wear it for we were all required to be in Filipiniana attire. Despite the irritating kimona, I was able to read the excerpts in a dramatic yet yawn-inducing manner. It was so appreciative to hear applauses from the professors and students in the crowd especially Monzie who sneaked in the back just to see us perform. When the reading was done, we headed to Mang Inasal to grab a meal where I had their delectable turon split. Can you believe that the snack cost me P39 only? At least it was worth it!
As a result of being a performer in The Trilogy, I was given additional grade along with a free cut in HUMALIT (which I availed today). I shall use my free cut to accomplish things that would be worth my time and mechanisms.
