The Decision

As of today, February 28, 2013, I have formally resigned from AB-LIM (Literature) and am now officially a major in AB-CAM (Communication Arts) aka my lifelong dream course.

In fact, the whole school year has been a long hard journey for me. My application to major in my original degree program was turned down on two separate occasions. Initially I was not allowed to shift courses as it would label me as a quitter. I was in limbo from September 2012 until today. My hair turned white (not literally) as the countdown to the release of shifting results grew closer.

Then this afternoon, a month after I submitted my shifting forms to those CLA departments, the list of incoming CAM/OCM majors was out.

To my surprise, I saw my ID number along with the 100+ other prospects!

My dream has morphed into a reality.

In a minute, I turned into the happiest girl in the entire world.

So what was the first thing I did as I turned on my laptop? Make a parody of the classic interview in the ESPN special The Decision starring Lebron James, the former target of those ringless jokes.

This is a transcript of my very own “The Decision” interview based on Lebron’s original version of the interview that brought him notoriety all over Cleveland as well as the sports industry. Several differences are distinct from the unprecedented account of “The Decision” to what I call my idea of sharing what course I will go to and possibly graduate in four to five terms later. Obviously I am not a NBA superstar, I am not being courted by different teams all in part of free agency, and I am not donning a Miami Heat jersey this summer.

Big Changes Are Coming

At this moment I am standing in the middle of the crossroads and pondering on which direction I should head to. By tomorrow I will be making The Decision that would seal the rest of my college tenure. I will be dedicating an entire post about the subject as soon as fate is in my hands. Stay tuned.

What Happened Last Valentine's Day

“Valentine’s Day is just a day made by those greeting card companies.”

“Everyday is Valentine’s Day!”

Can you tell the difference between the two statements above? Concisely the first thinks February 14 is just an overhyped day when there is a sudden emergence of flowers and heart-shaped balloons everywhere. On the other hand, the second believes it can be celebrated 365 days a year (366 for a leap year) and not just St. Valentine’s feast day.

Before you ask me on what happened to me last Thursday, here are things you should know about:

  1. For the 19th year in a row I didn’t go out on a date with a guy (insert Forever Alone meme here)

  2.  I didn’t get any chocolates, a bouquet of roses, or got serenaded by a chorale

  3. I had two exams that day in FAMIPOP and STATLIT

  4. I had an interview for my application in Green Giant FM’s Creatives Committee

Every time I passed by a sweet couple or someone with flowers and a teddy bear in hand my face looked like this:

Ooh, how evil of me to react like that.

The day began with my student assistant job at the Development and Alumni Relations Office. While I was checking out my social networking profiles, the office’s messenger asked me if I would be going out on a date with someone today. I said no. Following the reply he gave me this advice, “Sabi nga nila, may kupido at stupido!” At around 10AM, I left the office for an early lunch at Mang Inasal where I had my first taste of their famed pork sisig in addition to three cups of rice and accompanied by cheesy OPM love songs. Well duh, how can you call it Valentine’s Day when all you play on your stereo is Gangnam Style? Oh wait that song is so last year. Harlem Shake is the in thing now.

After lunch, I headed to Miguel building for my FAMIPOP class where we had a quiz and a film showing of Our Family Wedding. The feature itself was hilarious yet realistic because it was based primarily on exogamous / interracial marriages. Right before class was dismissed, our tutor showed us this short clip of him proposing to his girlfriend as soon as they reached the top of the mountain they climbed together back in January this year. Awwww! When the clock struck 1 in the afternoon, I headed to Velasco building for my interview with a Green Giant FM DJ in regards to my application. Ten minutes later, I left the room with great confidence knowing I left a good impression with the DJ who interviewed me. The results are still pending as of this writing. I will update you as soon as they’re out!

STATLIT exam was bearable even though I was one of the last ones to finish it. After I was done with the test, I checked my phone only to see an influx of Monzie’s text messages and missed calls. I was alarmed knowing something wrong happened to her. Once I returned her call, I rushed to the fourth floor of Miguel where I comforted her because of a petty phone call she received. Kevs, Tisha, and Jeline followed us a few minutes later. Since we were all dateless this year, we embarked on the idea of going to White Hat in One Archers Place in order to have a group date of our own. However for Kevs, he left early because of a family outing so it was just the four of us girls who went on with the plans.

A random thought just popped out my head: I dig froyo.

Then there were the snapshots:

On the same day a year ago, we had our first LEAP experience wherein we took our respective alternative classes, ice skated in MOA, and had lunch at Sbarro. Lovely day indeed!

Despite not having a main squeeze last Thursday, I’d like to thank all those who greeted me! I still enjoyed Valentine’s Day without being the Minnie to Mickey or the lace to a shoe.

One more thing: I got hugs from a bunch of people. At least I can conclude I did not go home empty-handed this year.

How about you? How did you spend this year’s Hearts Day?

LEAP 2K13 (Late Post)

Time to catch up with the WWW universe again!

I was not supposed to attend this year’s LEAP (Lasallian Enrichment Alternative Program) because I was sick the day before and I had second thoughts of not going to school. However, it was our annual University Week and I didn’t want to be bored silly at home so I rested as much as possible. Even if you don’t take your time to read this post in its entirety the title already bears the answer whether I continued with my plans of attending LEAP or not.

Morning of February 5 (LEAP 2K13): I attended Blogging for Business as my LEAP class. This time I went solo unlike a year ago when my friends and I sweated it out courtesy of Basic Hiphop. I was thankful I chose it over the hundred options available because I learned a lot of tips that would be more useful in pursuing my hobby. As for the tips and the class overall, it will be documented in a separate post soon!

Afternoon of February 5: What is post-LEAP class without spending the rest of your waking hours in school with your friends? That’s right, it was an afternoon well-spent. Following our respective classes we feasted on red velvet cupcakes (Tisha’s treat) and chats about our mornings in the Yuchengco building staircase. When lunch was served, we made the rounds in Central Plaza, SJ Walk, and Miguel where we took some of our jeje photos. Monzie, Tisha, and I took turns being the photographer of those precious keepsakes of this year’s LEAP Day. Our last stop was at the Henry Sy Sr. Hall library where we stayed in the outdoor garden to inhale some fresh air.

Favorite photo from the day with Jeline, Tisha, and Monzie! Special mention to Kevs who will forever shy away from the sight of flashing lights.

“Hey guys! Let’s go jeje!” - Jeline

I shall speed up and keep this naive since I have another post to attend which is all about the day everyone loves to hate…..VALENTINE’S DAY!

A MEGA EXCLUSIVE, debuting on their very first cover with MEGA Magazine are bestfrenemies Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge. The girls, by illustrator of Archie Comics himself Dan Parent, goes local and wears celebrated Filipino designs by Veejay Floresca and Cary Santiago!”

I thought I’d share with you this! I’ve always been an Archie Comics fan ever since I could remember. I would read them over and over and never get tired. So I’m really pleased that a local fashion magazine was the first to ever put Betty & Veronica on any magazine cover wearing Filipino designer dresses drawn by none other than Archie comics illustrator himself, Dan Parent.

My mind is still freaking out about this.

I saw this at 7-Eleven yesterday! Betty and Veronica will always be part of my childhood <3
