The loneliest people are the kindest. The saddest people smile the brightest. The most damaged people are the wisest. All because they do not wish to see anyone else suffer the way they do.

Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good. Life is too short— enjoy it. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present and the future. It’s OK to let your children see you cry. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. If a relationship has to be secret, you shouldn’t be in it. Take a deep breath, it calms the mind. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. It’s never too late to be happy. But it’s all up to you and no one else. When it comes time to go after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer. Burn the nice candles, use the nice sheets, wear the nice lingerie, wear the nice clothes. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
Over prepare, then go with the flow. No one is in charge of your happiness but you. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: ‘In five years will this matter?’ Always choose life. Forgive but don’t forget. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved. If we all threw our problems in a pile and we saw everyone else’s, we’d grab our’s back. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have, not what you need. Yield. Friends are the family we choose. Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift.

One day, I will own a bookshelf full of books I’ve never imagined owning. Having that would be every reader’s dream come true!

06.17.13: Photoshoot at the Henry Sy / Yuchengco Covered Walk

At midday of this day in June, two friends came to the realization that life was getting dull until they decided to use their SLR cameras for an impromptu photoshoot. Both of them wanted to play dual roles as photographer and model, so they switched places in taking photos and modeling from time to time.

Failed shots, overexposures, and sporadic “model’s block” from a shortage of posing ideas all followed. Despite this, the two friends got their creative juices together and in turn were satisfied with their outputs. In line with that, both of them uploaded their photos in their personal accounts found in the wonders of the World Wide Web. And that is why you are seeing my photos which, if lucky, might end up on an upscale fashion magazine someday.

This Week on Can-stagram

First Row

1st Photo: Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing daddies in the entire world especially to my lolos, uncles, and my dad whose birthday is also today! As a gift for my blog’s ultimate fan, I made him a collage of our photos taken on the night we watched Fast and Furious 6 together back in May.

2nd Photo: On June 12, my mom celebrated her birthday so I posted a collage on her wall like I always do on the day where all of her cells regenerate. What I just told you was something I learned from my Biology teacher back in second year high school when we were studying the human anatomy. I bet I gave you another piece of knowledge power today, right?

3rd Photo: Our first assignment in FOTOCOM (Basic Photography) class was to capture five still-life images of three eggs with emphasis in the lighting, color, texture, and form of the subjects. Sure this task wasn’t a piece of cake yet it was a battleground for us to improve my shooting skills. Another challenging part of this was that we were FORBIDDEN to either use auto setting in our cameras or edit them via any software. At first, I was trepid over ideas on how to shoot those eggs in a creative manner. But with the help of photography websites and friends alike, I was able to collect several tips along with hours of practice.  By the way, this is an iPhone capture of my Nikon’s screen presenting one of five eggtography samples.

Second Row

4th Photo: And the lunch for today is…the new McSpicy burger! There was nothing but giddiness curling around my belly when I learned of its lunch earlier this week. Just like KFC’s Zinger, it is a medium-sized burger with lettuce and spicy chicken thigh fillet wrapped in a bun. The price is affordable so as to speak (ala carte at P80, w/ medium fries and drink at P135) while it retains the spiciness as advertised. Like I remarked in my Instagram caption, McSpicy is tasty and worth the hype. It is very likely following the meal that I will grab another bite of my new favorite chicken burger one of these days!

5th Photo: An aerial landscape of Taft Avenue behind the tinted windows of Henry Sy Library accompanied with a quote to showcase a form of simple graphic design.

Third Row

6th and 7th Photo: After a year of not seeing each other, Khar and I met up last Wednesday for a day of laughter and sentiments. We swapped a lot of stories over what happened with us within the 365+ day gap, praised each other for our individual accomplishments, and took photos as a memorabilia of our interpersonal HS reunion. I am in high hopes the Sweet 6Teens will reunite sooner or later!

Get Your Head in The Game

I have to finish at least one or two books out of three over the weekend: Madame Bovary, Ligo Na U Lapit Na Me, and Bata, Bata Paano Ka Ginawa? which were all borrowed and due to be returned in two weeks. Just so you know, I’ve been hitting the bookshelves once again for the sake of pleasure and knowledge. A few months ago I was swept away with the wonders of technology so it was no surprise when it came to my senses I’ve been trailing behind in the number of books I’ve read overtime. Sir Doy was absolutely right when he discussed the correlation between reading and writing during our first meeting in INTFILM last week. His exact words are still imprinted on my mind to this day, “Reading is a sine qua non of writing.”Colloquially speaking, you cannot write well without developing a habit for reading. What is the secret to good writing? That’s right folks, reading in all shapes and sizes and not just the ones you come across your news feed. This turned out to be the turning point to put my head back in the game especially now I am in the literary committee of Green and White. I cannot say no for I’ve been holding a pen in my hand long before I learned how to spell a word as complex as “onomatopeia”. Speaking of GNW, I do not regret my membership there as it is giving me a lot of chances to hone my craft while at the same pace building healthy friendships with my co-staffers.

Back to the main topic - part of the reason why I am slowly returning to being a religious reader again is my competitive spirit. If I keep on replacing paper with pixels, chances are I will get leapfrogged by someone previously tagged as someone lesser than me. Like everyone else, I do not want to be part of this statement, “She used to be this good but her skill is now declining; right now X is better than her.” My solution from this consolation is to read and write more. When I speak of reading, I refer to anything not classified under superfluous entertainment news.

A food for thought: do you need the usage of professional-level words to be acclaimed as a writer or the comprehension of your thoughts matters more?
