Gratata.

Allow me to scribble some stuff in bold and uppercase. I believe someone is sharing the same thoughts as mine as of the moment now that the San Antonio Spurs and the LA Kings have their championship rings:

NO NHL AND NBA UNTIL OCTOBER (SEPTEMBER IF YOU COUNT PRESEASON).

Welp. All I’m stuck with is UAAP Basketball and my only hope for this season is to see the DLSU Green Archers repeat as champs. Better yet, I’ll just binge on the movies and TV shows stored in my hard drive until the preseason kicks off on September to drive away my raging school spirit with all the rivalry match-ups in the next three months. Don’t forget the bandwagoners, the breakout stars, and the Twitter overreactions. One thing is guaranteed through it all: I support my school’s basketball team in victory or defeat.

In other news, I’ve been watching Teen Wolf, Friends, and Orange is the New Black lately. Since it’s the offseason, I shall watch as many episodes as I could so at least I have something to invest in while waiting for the new season to begin.

Just a few things about my life these past few days:

  • Watched Heathers and Himala in NARATIV and WRIFILM respectively

  • I may be late to the party but The Fault In Our Stars was so good although I didn’t bawl like a baby and a sleeping lady sitting at my back snored so loud all throughout the film

  • Lana Del Rey’s new album “Ultraviolence” is soothing to the ears

  • Best pop anthology I’ve heard in a long time.

  • The evolution from man to jellyfish as illustrated by Fatboy Slim in “Right Here, Right Now”

  • Dark chocolate shake at Mini Stop is my current cheap thrill

  • Maleficient was…disappointing. I’ve been waiting for this since summer, and my expectations were not met once it came out. It leaned towards the Frozen storyline more than Maleficent’s character.

  • A piece of advice from a Comm Arts senior: do your homework a few days in advance to avoid the temptation of cramming. I’ve developed this habit partly because I only meet my majors once or twice a week but mostly because I want to take time to prepare my requirements.

  • I cannot wait for this year’s Student Media Congress this July 25-26!

  • Buzzfeed quizzes are the bomb.

Now playing in the middle of writing this post:

“Your just turned your back on the crowd and you got away."

For some sports thoughts now that the champions have been crowned:

  • I’m so happy the Spurs avenged their Finals loss last year by winning their fifth franchise championship in five games. They may not be my favorite NBA team but I applaud them for their depth, coaching, and burning drive from beginning to end. Another thing that made them so deserving of the Larry O'Brien Trophy is because their road to getting their much-hyped rematch is so difficult. Can you imagine almost getting eliminated by the Mavs in 7 in the first round, facing a young Trail Blazers team, and most especially the heavily-favored OKC Thunder? The Spurs’ path was so difficult compared to Heat’s Bobcats, Nets, and the choking Pacers. I’d take winning a championship by beating legitimate contenders over getting to the finals after dispatching weak teams (cough Heat cough).

  • The LA Kings deserved to win the Stanley Cup. Why? They have a balanced roster filled with talented forwards and defensemen and a solid goaltender in Jonathan Quick. They fought back from a 3-0 series deficit in the first round (thanks Sharks), blew a 2-0 series lead to trail 3-2 before emerging victorious over the Ducks in seven games, dethroned the Blackhawks in overtime of Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals after falling in the scoreboard thrice, and resurged against the Rangers many times to take Lord Stanley home. How many championship teams could do that? Being a Pens fan I have to commend the Kings for their "never say die” attitude. They have gained my respect all throughout the playoffs.

  • Intensity aside, the only thing I strongly dislike about the playoffs (especially the Stanley Cup playoffs) is the fans naming a new “best player in the world” every week only because of his performance in a particular game or series in general. First it’s someone from the Pens, then from the Hawks, then the Rangers, and finally it’s from the Kings. NEITHER DOMINANCE IN ONE PLAYOFF YEAR NOR THE NUMBER OF CHAMPIONSHIPS WON SHOULD NOT DEFINE WHO THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD IS.There is absolutely a number of factors which could affect a team or player performance in a single year. Player X could score seven goals in three games in the first round then have no points in the finals. Player Y’s brilliance could be hampered by an injury causing him to play poorly in a year’s playoffs then be in his actual form the next. The team may have a lack of depth or bad coaching (like the Pens and its now ex-coach). Anything could happen in a single year, and that’s why I don’t buy in this petty argument.

  • Now that there is a change of management in the Pens front office, I sincerely hope they would be capable of building a championship team as soon as possible so all their critics could shut up.

  • This year’s Cup finals was the first I’ve watched in its entirety (except for Game 1 because I had class). What a terrific series.
