I first met Jeline back in May 2011 during our block’s LPEP (Lasallian Personal Effectiveness Program). If I could recall correctly, we just introduced ourselves at the time and that was it. School then started and I was making friends with my blockmates yet we went the first few weeks not saying a word to each other. We were friends on Facebook (she was actually the one who added me first) but that’s just it.
It all changed one morning in July 2011 when Jeline asked me to accompany her to Yellow Cab for lunch. We had FWDANCE in the afternoon and she didn’t have anyone else to spend the break with so I agreed. She had chicken pasta and I had my packed lunch when we started talking about how much Twilight sucked, our high school days, and so much more randomness out of the box. Boy, who would have thought that it would be the beginning of a beautiful friendship?
The texts, FB chats, tweets, selfies, and gimmicks started. Soon Jeline, Monzie, Tisha, Kevs and I became the core squad. We may have been dispersed into different classes and places (in Tisha’s case when she moved to Zamboanga two years ago) yet it didn’t stop us from being the best friends we’ve ever had. Another great thing about us is that we were able to meet new friends through each other which made life way better than projected.
Fast forward to 2015. At the end of this year, almost everyone I know would have graduated from college. Jeline will be marching along the halls of PICC Plenary Hall a few hours from the time I publish this post. She will be among the over 500 students in caps and gowns who could call themselves the happiest people on Earth tomorrow, now that all of their sacrifices have paid off and they’re en route to a new journey in life. I am proud of Jeline for not only graduating from the grueling Literature program I was once part of but also for overcoming all the odds she has faced in the past four years of college.
Best of all, I am very proud and blessed to have Jeline as my friend. This girl is damn fortunate to be surrounded with people who love and appreciate her every being. I could not imagine life had I never met her in LPEP, had the Yellow Cab lunch never happened that July four years ago, and all those bonding moments we’ve had with our Squad. Thank you so much God for giving me someone like her in our lives.
Thank you so much for all of your advice, bonding moments, random IMs and texts, food trips, selfies, and other crazy stuff. Life would have been a dumpster fire if you along all other people I’ve met were non-existent.Congratulations Jeline on your graduation! I will always love you forever and ever even when my hair turns old and grey. <3
