The Flyers Got Run Over By A Reindeer

The title came from a song off the Penguins’ fake holiday CD. I rolled on the floor in laughter when I first read that, but hey it’s legit! The bottomline is: I don’t like the Philadelphia Flyers. If ever they win the Cup next year, please don’t chirp me this:

Oh wait, are they even in a playoff spot right now? 

2013 is almost over, I’m turning two decades old in less than thirty days, and I’ll be spending Christmas in Johor Bahru with my parents. But these things won’t stop me from putting up my first legit blog entry in eight days to make all of your wishes of hearing any updates about my life come true in a snap. 

Let us all look back at the SMO Christmas Party last December 7 at the lovely Henry Sy Hall roofdeck which I spent with my G&W babies. Thank you very much Lyka for these Instax snappies! <3 

For our VPRODUC finals, each group was required to produce a short film on whatever floats our boat. In our group’s case, we decided to embark on Pick Me Up, a romantic comedy about a girl trying to impress a guy - with twists and turns involved. Casting of the male lead was the hardest part since a lot of the options either declined or were busy, but at least in the end we were able to recruit someone who turned out to be fit for the role! Shooting the film took us two days while editing took another two and a half. We breathed a sigh of relief once we watched the finished film because we were so proud of what we just accomplished. Apart from that, we were able to bond in between at Tori Box (where we shot the Jessy Mendiola McSpicy parody scene) and Madi’s condo.

“Gusto nyo ba magka-boyfriend na computer?” - Miss Arevalo

Last November 20, my VPRODUC professor Miss Arevalo made us watch a bunch of short films in preparation for our final project. I’m Here was the finale of all the shorts we watched in class; and all I could say is that I’m very impressed with Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich), the director of this fantastic film. The plot revolves around two robots finding love in a world dominated by humans and machines. The values of sacrifice, unselfishness, commitment are challenged along the way as their relationship grows deeper. 

A well-executed and exceptional storyline, an eye-popping display of cinematography, a soothing soundtrack, and captivating acting from the cast are so essential that when combined they formulate the perfect phenomenal film.  Despite its limited release (an independent short film to be precise), I’m Here has proven to be a sensation to critics and audiences alike.

I liked the film so much I downloaded Aska Matsumiya’s “There Are Many Of Us” almost immediately. To be exact, it is Francesca and Sheldon’s (the robot couple) theme in those swoon-worthy scenes. Do you need inspiration as an escape from all the stress, or something to squeeze out your imagination for your upcoming love story to be made into a film or novel five years from now? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then listen to the song and make your own version of the love story - so brilliant that once I get to read or watch it in the future we could then all agree that Twilight should be inducted in Hollywood’s Hall of Shame for its outstanding achievement as “trendsetter of asinine expectations of romance since 2008”.
