Nighttime reading is magic.

Gold of sunshine in her hair, lips that shame the red red rose. In ageless sleep, she finds repose.
To tell you frankly, I didn’t appreciate Closer back when I first watched it the summer before my freshman year in high school. All I heard about it since then was that it revolved around the theme of truth in addition to the fine performances of the actors (most especially Natalie Portman as Alice).
Then two weeks ago in my NARATIV elective, we were discussing story frames when Closer popped up as an example of the snapshot structure. If you watch the film, you’d observe it jumps to the pivotal points of the characters’ relationships which is one of the story frame’s characteristics. Now that I am practically done with hell week, I decided to reward myself by catching up with my accounts, TV shows, and movies. That’s how I turned to watching Closer again this afternoon only this time I was able to comprehend the essence of the entire film.
I know I haven’t been in touch with digital illustration and typography lately because I was so engrossed with producing TV shows, writing screenplays, and differentiating the narrative of classical Hollywood films from those of the Philippines. The good thing about this “break”, despite it being ten days only, is I am able to practice with things I want to learn.
Just like the stuff I’ve been doing the past 36 hours.
The first one is a vector portrait I made of Alice from Closer:

Drawing her eye was a hassle, but I like how it turned out for a novice like myself. LOL at the eyelash fail though!

One of my favorite quotes from the film.
I know my blog is filled with these now, but I have been having fun with all the different color combinations.

I had the sudden urge to draw simple-style cartoon characters and wound up drawing this happy con-goer.

Kill the urge to always say something about yourself when others say something personal. - Michael Lipsey
Tumblr and We Heart It lead me to a discovery of an artist I will never forget. Had it not been for these sites, I would not have seen these artworks bringing much expression, clamor, and vividness from an individual. That’s right folks, I’m talking about Ilse Valfre.
The biography on Valfre’s site states she was once a preschool teacher at San Diego, California where she wrote and illustrated a children’s book entitled The Bambinis. At present, she is a full-time illustrator and model who also works on fashion illustrations but never fails to abandon her plans on a book series. From her profile itself, this is a pure evidence of how exceptional and well-rounded Valfre is. How many people can draw, write, model, and teach all at the same time like her?
The highlights of her personal site are her portfolio of captivating illustrations and blog featuring more art and inspiration to satisfy every man’s sight. Let me leave you in awe as we take a look at the best of Valfre’s work:
This illustration with this statement above has got to be my favorite.
