If there is one thing I hate about people, it is their narcissism.

It is okay to be confident about yourself, but if you’re bragging about how more superior you are than anyone else then you have just crossed the border. It is truly fine with me if you’ll tell to yourself that you’re beautiful because everyone really is in their exceptional ways. But if you’re going to say “X is insecure of me because I’m the prettiest”, then congratulations. You have just fit the description of what a narcissist is.

Lessons from a Theresian Graduate

#STCTaughtMe trended worldwide on Twitter last night! Can you imagine that? It was probably the first time in history when Theresians took Twitter by storm and posted their learnings from the school in 140 characters or less before heading to the worldwide trends. When I learned of the news today via my batchmates’ tweets, it made me feel more proud of being a Theresian  - which I was a year before but will always remain one to the deepest core. For 11 years, I studied in this school where I grew up and learned a lot of life’s virtues.  Since 140 characters is not enough for me to express what my alma mater has taught me, I will just blog everything about it here.

  • Be happy with what you have. - I will always remember these exact words by my CWJ teacher when I was in 4th year. Our class was tasked to write our thoughts on paper, and I decided to write about the things others had which I didn’t own. A week later, our notebooks were returned, and I read those words from my teacher. She added, “Even with making changes with yourself, you would still be recognized who you are.”  During my entire HS life, there were lots of times when I wanted to be in the shoes of another girl who was more beautiful or got higher grades without exerting much effort, not to mention she has the gadgets and clothes and the number of friends that I want.  Let us face it: there would always be someone who would always be better than you. Nonetheless, the grass is always greener at the other fence of the yard. In the crowd, you could pinpoint someone who is prettier, smarter, wealthier, or more talented than you but one thing for sure is they can never be you. And if they’re better than you, then there is someone out there who is more superior than them. Yes, envy and comparisons cannot be avoided but we should learn to count our blessings. I have to admit that I still get envious at times but I try my best not to overtake my life.

  • Pain is temporary, pride is forever. - This was my schedule back in senior year: wake up at 4:45 AM, arrive in school at 6:30, get home from school at 5, dinner at 7, study from 8 until God knows when. But in the third quarter, the requirements started stacking up and I began experiencing repeating episodes of insomnia and stress. As much as I wanted to have a good night’s sleep, I resisted myself because I wanted to accomplish them all so I could get a good academic standing then graduate with flying colors. Nothing can ever beat the power of hard work even with the struggles you face. After the endless hours of studying for the sciences and language arts, I was able to graduate STC with a smile on my face - and a fresh diploma at hand.

  • Learn to appreciate your batch and the tight bond you’ve had. - Truth to be told, I appreciated my batch more in my last two years in STC. We grew up together: we wore the same pastel colors in Prep, played under the same heritage tree as grade schoolers, made the transition from Friendster to Facebook together, and made the same final march in the Calamba Gym during our high school graduation. After going through a lot back in the years prior, I almost wanted to surrender. Then all of a sudden, a downpour of new friends came to my life and my faith was restored. I realized that three or four years can make a huge difference in each person’s character. I’ve seen a lot who changed for the good although there were some who made the opposite direction. My batch was so tight we didn’t want to let ourselves go from the bond we made. Especially in senior year, I was surprised when people started to change their impressions of each other. True colors were revealed and stereotypes slowly faded into obscurity. Haters turned into friends. Doubters turned into believers. Slackers turned into achievers. It was never too late for us to change in order to give a lasting legacy to our school. Every time we were with our classmates and friends, we were so happy and comfortable being with each other.  Whenever I hear Theresians today talking about the Bandfest or Family Day, I would always remember how special my batch’s bond was. Somehow, they became my adoptive sisters being an only child myself.  I miss my batch and I hope we would be complete again the next time we see each other.

It has been a year since I graduated from STC. It has been six months since I last stepped on the grounds of my the school located at 116 D. Tuazon St. at the heart of Quezon City. I haven’t seen 75% of my HS batch since graduation partly because only a few of us who went studied in DLSU for college. Sad to say, S6T has yet to have a proper reunion since we haven’t had a hangout since April of last year. But I was glad to see most of IV-3 during debuts and class gatherings and being apart from them made me miss them more.

Before I end this post, congratulations to STC Batch 2012 for a job well done! I wish you all the best in your college life and future endeavors.  I hope to see ID 112 Theresians this coming May :)

03.24.12

  • That day was Och’s debut @ iBar

  • But in the morning we had our last CWTS session

  • I would miss our CWTS block :(

  • Finally subscribed to BB Social!

  • Then I logged in to Twitter and posted immediately

  • After CWTS, Kevs and I accompanied Monzie to the PERSEF office

  • And she finally got her planner back after two months \:D/

  • The three of us then had lunch at 7-Eleven

  • Monzie: “You’re good at remembering things!” Kev: “Bakit di ka nag-History?” Me: “Eh mas gusto ko Lit eh"

  • Then the two of them started telling me that majoring History can lead you to travel a lot and earn buckets of money

  • Got home at 1 then took a nap

  • Mediafire sucked that day when I was supposed to send files for POLISCI

  • Then at 4:30 I already dressed up for Och’s debut

  • I left home at 6 then arrived at 7:30

  • It was raining but it stopped by the time I went there

  • When I got there, I was glad to see some of my IV-3 loves

  • And let the storytelling begin!

  • "Eh sino yong vain dyan sa profile pic na nakahiga sa Amphitheater?” - Via with the gorgeous hair :))

  • Then more and more SE11ORS came

  • We took vanity shots but I didn’t take much photos

  • We ordered and ate a lot of french fries, calamares, carbonara, beef nachos…all for free!

  • Aly and I started sharing about our lives and complained about our orders taking too long :P

  • Och arrived in a sparkling red and black dress - and it was the first time in years since the last time I saw her hair up

  • We all greeted her and she thanked us for coming to her party :)

  • Some of the SE11ORS did an excellent cover of “A Thousand Years” and “Terrified”

  • A few went to the dancefloor since the venue was so small

  • IV-3 and some batchmates forced me to dance but it went so crazy I tumbled down on the floor =))

  • The party ended at 11:30 because Och and her family had to leave early for the next day’s trip

  • But at least we had delicious chocolate cupcakes as a thank you gift!

  • Got home at 12:30

  • And I headed straight to bed.

  • Thank you to SE11ORS and Och for the wonderful party!

3.24.2012

Tonight I'm gonna see the coolest classmates of my high school life @ Och's debut.

Finally after five months, I’ll be going to see my IV-3 loves again. I just can’t wait to be with the people who made my junior and senior year so memorable. Since I am now subscribed to BB Social, I can tweet you all while we’re partying at iBar tonight!

I’m so happy I could die right now.

Telex Moon

I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter
Now I met you
And honey you should know
That I could never go on without you

- Coldplay, “Green Eyes”

This song has been on repeat since last night while I was reading blogs like I usually do every time I am bored of reading tweets and recent activities on my live feed and when there’s nothing interesting to watch on YouTube.  And whenever I am in the mood, I would hunt for new music to listen and enjoy to. Nothing really substantial happened this week except on Wednesday, so I’m going to keep you updated by sharing about my participation in a poetry reading of Dr. Cirilo Bautista’s The Trilogy of Saint Lazarus.

Last Wednesday, I was tasked by my HUMALIT professor to read Act II of Telex Moon, one of the poems in The Trilogy. The poem is all about the persona’s profession of admiration for Josephine Bracken. How many men nowadays still declare their love for a woman in a form of literature with metaphors making it a charming piece to read? If I were Josephine Bracken, I would want to have that man as the cherry to my black forest cake. The day before that, Kevs and Tisha were helping me recite my poem while they practiced with theirs too since they themselves were performers of Telex Moon excerpts. They were giving me soulful advice such as avoiding to sound monotonous and to eat up the words like a big blue whale eating up Jonah. When the day came, I was itching in my pink kimona; however,  I had no choice but to wear it for we were all required to be in Filipiniana attire. Despite the irritating kimona, I was able to read the excerpts in a dramatic yet yawn-inducing manner. It was so appreciative to hear applauses from the professors and students in the crowd especially Monzie who sneaked in the back just to see us perform. When the reading was done, we headed to Mang Inasal to grab a meal where I had their delectable turon split. Can you believe that the snack cost me P39 only? At least it was worth it!

As a result of being a performer in The Trilogy, I was given additional grade along with a free cut in HUMALIT (which I availed today). I shall use my free cut to accomplish things that would be worth my time and mechanisms.

Today I shall use my free cut in HUMALIT by shaking up my lazy bones. Tonight I shall update this with everything I want you to know.

I certainly think it would be best for me to blog at night when everyone’s online.

Art On The Web

Let me share to you some of the artworks that caught my eye while fishing the virtual world of imagination called the Internet.

An artwork of Skins’  favorite blonde Cassie Ainsworth

The enigmatic Margot Tenembaum from the movie The Royal Tenembaums

Some illustrations found on Pinterest:

Monster March ran away from Foster The People’s Torches album cover:

For our HUMALIT class this Tuesday, our professor assigned us to pick our favorite painting / artwork. As much as I love Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh, no words cannot profess my love for American Gothic by Grant Devolson Wood:

That makes sense…

My university’s official theater group, the Harlequin Theater Guild, puts up two to three play productions every school year. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to get a glimpse of at least one of them until last Friday night when I watched Tonying at Ang Mahiwagang Aklat ng Kasaysayan in the Yuchengco Auditorium. Since my freshman year in college is about to end in three weeks, I did not waste any opportunity to watch a HTG play and get incentives from my professors as well as witnessing the brilliant ambience of theatre arts. In addition, the play was written by Dr. Torres, my KASPIL2 professor last term!

I was initially amused when I learned that Tonying was sponsored by media partners such as 92.3 News FM and ABS-CBN. Also, there were bloggers (particularly from Tumblr) who covered the whole presentation, so there was a little more excitement.  Just before the play started and in between ten-minute breaks, there were video clips of the HTG during rehearsals and self-made commercials of Zentea with Sadakos running over a terrified guy. Now let’s move on to the play - what can I say about what I’ve watched? I absolutely enjoyed Tonying from the beginning until the end! The actors were excellent in terms of internalizing the characters they played; all of them were able to entertain the audience as well as bring out the suspense in each scene. The story was not your typical fairytale but an adventure with a touch of history because it was all about a man whose quest was to be a keeper of the magical book of the past. It was not cliched, and that was one thing I liked about the play. The action scenes were wonderfully directed and acted especially there were elements of comedy added to the mix, making them more anticipating to laugh and cheer on at the same time. Tummies jumped like jellybeans and laughs overshadowed the wolves’ cries in the action scene where Magellan and Lapu-lapu re-enacted the epic Battle of Mactan. How hilarious can it be when Lapu-lapu defeated the former through an arm wrestling match?

Overall, Tonying is a feel-good, stress-reducing piece of art that would delight all viewers, young or old. The Harlequin Theater Guild and Tonying’s playwright Dr. Torres did a magnificent job to entertain Lasallians through the art of acting and the impact our country’s history can bring. The play made me realize how history can make a difference in our lives and gives us a curious mind on what would have been had some events never happened.

Dayum, dayum…I am now looking forward to other HTG productions in the future!

The best you never had is just a memory.

Just before I go to bed, I just want to share that because of yesterday’s sparring session in FWSPORT, I earned a bruise on the right leg and back pain from all the kicks and punches. But fear nothing as I am recovering from the physical suffering I experienced more than 24 hours ago.

So let the dreams sail away as I turn the lights off.

We'll be glowing in the dark: [Breaking] MPAA Grants 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' PG-13 Rating

Link: We'll be glowing in the dark: [Breaking] MPAA Grants 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' PG-13 Rating

long-way-from-home:

“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is now rated PG-13, rather than R, the Classification and Rating Appeals Board of the MPAA ruled Thursday.

Erik Feig, president of production at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group and Stephen Chbosky, the director, screenwriter and author of the novel on which the…

Because of that, there is a 70% chance the most anticipated scenes would be cut from the movie :(

Every day my thoughts are shuffling in my mind.

  • This week has been so much better than last week

  • We just concluded the second to the last CWTS exposure this morning

  • Yesterday’s lunch at Super Bowl of China was so satisfying I would want to return there and get a bite of their free fish crackers

  • The Artist really deserved the Oscar for Best Picture after watching it last night

  • I have a very bad case of envy right now because…

  • Everyone on Earth owns at least one Apple product (iPhone, iTouch, iPad, Mac)

  • Don’t really know if owning Apple would make you more exceptional than the rest of humanity

  • Okay guys, you already are the lucky ones with the cool gadgets

  • I WISH IT’S SUMMER VACATION ALREADY

  • I want to go somewhere new this summer and Holy Week

  • Arctic Monkeys’ Flourescent Adolescent is eargasm

  • I need to watch all the movies and TV shows I downloaded last week

  • But schoolwork always comes first

  • That’s it, I’m going to Photoshop the doodle I made last Tuesday in SPEECOM class

  • Last but not the least, take note: it’s half of the month next week

  • Then it would be the last four weeks of freshman year *sobs*

“You don’t need a lot of people to congratulate you for an achievement you’ve done. Just as long as your friends and family extended you their sincerest commendation, it is worth the honor already.” - Mom

Last Friday afternoon, I finally had the greatest achievement of my life at the palm of my hands. When the secretary handed me this piece of laurel, I was on an adrenaline with the hormones of happiness. After an extremely difficult second term, I didn’t expect to be part of the dean’s list since most of my batchmates have made it in the first term while I didn’t. But as the old folks say, nothing is impossible. I never thought I would turn this dream into a reality especially I was not exactly the star student.

I kept this as a secret to most of my friends for two months all because I didn’t want want to brag about it too much and I wanted to wait for the certificate first. So last night, I finally posted this - and received overwhelming support from my HS and college friends, batchmates, and family members. So a big thank you to everyone! >:D<

LEAP 2k12: It's Never Too Late

After three weeks, I finally had the urge to upload photos from LEAP 2K12 last Valentine’s Day.

Ola Pattycakes aka forever classmate! You’ll always be my partner-in-crime :)

See the difference? Jumpshots with Monz!

Photos during the Hiphop 101 class (insert Jeline here who went to Flash Fiction)

So while Tisha had her haircut, Kev decided to take photos of me with my two girls!

Reasons why I love Jeline so much:

1. She loves Monz to death

2. She loves Tisha so much she would pinch her cheeks all the time

3. We all love her because she’s hilarious and sweet

(lol at Pat!)

Unfortunately, Kev doesn’t want to have his picture taken…just because. =))

Last but not the least, college would have sucked without the Fantastic Four! Thank you guys for a really fun Valentine’s Day!
