To tell you frankly, I didn’t appreciate Closer back when I first watched it the summer before my freshman year in high school. All I heard about it since then was that it revolved around the theme of truth in addition to the fine performances of the actors (most especially Natalie Portman as Alice).
Then two weeks ago in my NARATIV elective, we were discussing story frames when Closer popped up as an example of the snapshot structure. If you watch the film, you’d observe it jumps to the pivotal points of the characters’ relationships which is one of the story frame’s characteristics. Now that I am practically done with hell week, I decided to reward myself by catching up with my accounts, TV shows, and movies. That’s how I turned to watching Closer again this afternoon only this time I was able to comprehend the essence of the entire film.
I know I haven’t been in touch with digital illustration and typography lately because I was so engrossed with producing TV shows, writing screenplays, and differentiating the narrative of classical Hollywood films from those of the Philippines. The good thing about this “break”, despite it being ten days only, is I am able to practice with things I want to learn.
