I’m happy that the Pens are winning. I’m happy Geno, Flower, Phil, Beau and the bottom six have been playing great lately. But the fact Sid is on a cold streak so far just makes me sad because a lot of Pens fans have been giving him a hard time for ¼ of the season. I mean, they’re not used to seeing him below PPG or not being at his best. There are those who have been throwing pitchforks at Letang too; and while he’s not my fave, I’ll defend him no matter what even if he’s been lackluster for sometime now.
I’m at my happiest when the entire team is not only doing well individually but also when they succeed as one team. I hate it when the Pens are doing well and all they do is pine the praise on the best player but crapping on the worst one. Come on, you are a fan win or lose.
Also, I’m so sick of fans pitting Sid and Geno against each other. This is not a friggin’ popularity contest or a race to who gets the most goals. I have to admit I’m frustrated with some players (but especially Sid as I’m not used to seeing him like this and he’s my favorite) yet I will never give up on them because you may never know what will happen by April. I’d be happy for both 87 and 71 to be at the top of the scoring leaderboard, but I’d be happier if the Penguins walk away as Stanley Cup champions because it represents a TEAM accomplishment. Geno has had his bad times too, I’m pretty sure we’re all aware of that. So for the nth time, stop all the trade rumors and the #StripTheC movement when the captain isn’t playing 100%. Hockey is a team sport. TEAM sport.
So from this day on, I’ll try to avoid Penguins Reddit and Facebook on game days because people go insane when the team loses or a superstar player slumps. And as for Twitter, some Pens fans are great follows because at least they know what they’re talking about.
There are still about 59 games left so anything can happen from there. I still believe the Pens can fight all the way to the SCF in June. I still believe Sid and Tanger will breakthrough. I still believe the Pens will have a storybook ending to this season.
