9. Tonight I realized that tomorrow is registration for LEAP (Lasallian Enrichment Alternative Program) 2012.

I am thinking of joining Be A DJ for A Day, Modelling 101, Philippine Film and Media 101 (with the wacky Ramon Bautista as guest speaker), Paint Ball, Graphic Design Workshop, or The Runway of Blogging (and meet famous fashion bloggers!)

I only have 8AM-8PM tomorrow to enlist. Gahhhhh.

Here's to the girl who lived the last 17 years of her life with rabid awesomeness.

I’ve known this amazing girl since we became classmates in Prep, but it was only in third year of high school when we became everlasting friends. Although we never shared the same classroom again after Prep, I always felt like we do not only because we wear the same uniform but also we think of the same happy thoughts. Back in senior year, I would always be excited every Tuesday and Thursday because I’d get to see her in our Creative Writing and Journalism elective classes. For the whole school year in elective, we sat beside each other, shared each other’s work, and rambled about Physics, Twilight hate, and a bunch of other shenanigans that we both enjoy. The last time I saw her was when we got our yearbooks last September 2011. I just came out of the dentist and hopped on the jeep when I saw her. In the jeep, we were shrieking “I miss you!” and told a lot of stories.

Let me tell you something about this girl: we are 7 days apart of each other’s birthdays, is also a Literature major but only in ADMU, and she’s madly in love with Darren Criss and Harry Potter. She is also an amazing artist and writer who’s got a lot of creativity and wit in her blood. We both love insulting Twilight and are both self-confessed Tumblr addicts. In both of our class pictures, we had a candid shot with Forever Alone - our all-time favorite Tumblr meme! Best of all, I love it whenever we exchange our dirtload of secrets >:)

I am very thankful that I met a wonderful friend like her and I truly cherish all of the things we did together the past three years. I’m glad she came to my life and became a big part of my 18 years on Earth. I would be overjoyed if ever we get to meet again anytime this year or in 10 years or on our batch homecoming. Her humor would always be the most striking characteristic of her. Not a lot of people can crack a ticklish joke like her, or be as thoughtful as she is with her life-changing advice. She was really happy when I finally got rid of something that was not worth my time.

To Sam (sam-theham), thank you so much for being one of the true friends I ever had in my life. Thank you for listening to all of my stories may it be melancholic or cheerful and for sharing some to me too! It always puts a big smile on my face whenever we chat on FB, see each other in person, or message each other on Tumblr Ask. Continue being happy-go-lucky, smart, caring, and gorgeous everyday! Whenever you need something, I’m just a message away.

Happy 18th birthday! I love you, always

And here’s a Darren Criss GIF for you:

When boredom strikes and you’ve got a webcam in hand, all you can do is strike a pose. - 1/21, edited with Camerabag

I officially turned 18 last Friday (January 20). At the stroke of midnight, mom texted me this tear-jerking message which was followed by a phone call from her in the afternoon. The day before that, I treated my college friends to Chowking because we all wanted something cheap and something Chinese. So off to Midtown (our favorite mall lol) and feasted on Chowking before burning off calories at Timezone.

When I got to school, I was immediately greeted by friends in person and text. I was very happy when Kath, Khar, and Chini texted me happy birthday that day since I haven’t seen them since March (Kath and Khar) and June (Chini) although I kept in touch with them with FB chat. At lunchtime, my friends and I hung out at 7-Eleven for lunch then some secret place where we could rest. At dismissal time, dad picked me up and we went to SM Mall of Asia to have dinner at Shakey’s.

For dinner, we had chicken and chips, carbonara, and Friday Special (my personal favorite pizza in Shakey’s!). Following the very huge dinner, we bought treats for my grandparents, and walked around the mall. At 9PM, we went home and I immediately climbed into my bed because I was so tired since we have CWTS the next day.

Last Saturday was CWTS day in Caloocan. The subsequent day was Dad’s last day in Manila before returning to Singapore. Dad, uncle Dilts, and I went to SM Dasma to do a little shopping. I even got to buy two new books, namely Pretties and The Fairest of Them All at Booksale. At dinnertime, my cousins came at my grandparents’ house and we ate together. The following morning at around 4AM, we fetched Dad to NAIA. At 5:30, I was back at Manila.

To all those who greeted via text, in person, FB, Twitter and Tumblr, thank you very much for making my 18th birthday special! <3

Mind Like Nebula

Last week the Lasallian Media Week was held, and there was a recruitment for new staffers of Malate Literary Folio, The Lasallian, and Ang Pahayagang Plaridel. I planned to join there in the first term, but it was too late when I found out about the application. Some of my blockmates working in Malate encouraged me to apply there come third term - which I did last Thursday.

Tomorrow I will be heading to the Malate Literary Folio office over at the SPS Building to submit my application and learn about my interview schedule. I applied for the prose section and I am keeping my fat fingers crossed. My back-up plan if ever I don’t qualify for the section is to work at the Marketing and Events Section. Just as long as I am in Malate, everything will turn out great.

Over the weekend, I finished a dramatic short story with a load of help from Kev (who’s a member of Malate). It was the first I wrote something that featured a cliffhanger and dominance of melacholic emotions; however, it was fun making a concept out of it. I enjoyed writing it while the ideas ran like a wildfire. Then came the essays required for the Malate application and I’m doing them right now: why an ID would be my lost and found identity and the literary accomplishments I did prior to college life.

18th Birthday Wishlist

My birthday is tomorrow but technically I’ll be turning 18 officially at 7:45 AM. I am both excited and nervous for my “legal day” because 1) there’s school, 2) first birthday without my HS friends, and 3) I’ll be a debutante, only without the cotillion and the slow dancing. Sorry to break your hearts but I won’t be having a debut. Not only it’s not really my way to celebrate my 18th, I think it’s not very practical to spend money on a party when I could have bought myself a decent birthday gift. Before the clock strikes midnight, here is my birthday wishlist:

1. iPad 2

2. The Hunger Games trilogy book set (I long to read these before the movie comes out)

3. A brand new domain (thecandydoll.net perhaps?)

4. Skins: The Novel

5. Complete book sets of The Clique, Gossip Girl, Secrets of my Hollywood Life

6. A brand new camera (a Nikon or Canon SLR will do)

7. A set of Steadtler pens

8. A Disney sweatshirt from Forever 21 (I was supposed to get Sleeping Beauty back in SG but I picked the last Kermit the Frog sweatshirt there!)

9. Any outfit from Kamiseta, Tomato, Forever 21, Zara

10. A pair of gorgeous flats

11. A trip to Bora, Palawan, and Tagaytay anytime this year

12. More money (who doesn’t wish for that? :P)

13. A happy 2012

14. More blessings to myself, my family, friends, and other loved ones

I won’t be including a new cellphone unit, planner, and laptop because I already got those before my birthday. I’m already thankful for having Quinn (Sony Vaio), my BB Bold 9000 (still unnamed), and my brand new Belle de Jour 2012 Power Planner. As much as I want a Macbook and a Blackberry Curve, I’m definitely contented with what I have right now.

1/14

Yesterday, my dad picked me up in school from CWTS class then headed off to the dentist to have my monthly adjustment. At around 3 PM, we had lunch at KFC then we drove ahead to Cavite where his grandparents and siblings along with my cousins live. Following a heavy traffic, dad and I arrived at the clubhouse at 5 PM to meet up with my aunt and her family where we made plans for a dinner and movie at SM Dasmarinas.

Our initial dinner place was at Flavors of China, but we had to leave because there was no way to accommodate the nine of us. So Max’s Fried Chicken was our second choice. No regrets for us having dinner there at all! We feasted over chicken, kare-kare, sinigang na tiyan ng bangus, and fresh lumpia. So while we waited for the food to be served, we took photos.

(L-R) Reese, yours truly, Abby

The Leocadio Family (L-R) Aunt Janet, Lola Glo, Lolo Manny, Tito Jojo (Dilts as I call him thanks to Archie Comics), dad

(L-R) Dad, Reese, Uncle Rodel, yours truly, Abby

When dinner was done, the nine of us watched the last full show of Sherlock Holmes: The Game of Thrones. Honestly, this was the first movie since Notting Hill (way back in 1999) where we watched as a whole family. The film was worth the money because of the colossal action scenes and the clever dialogue of the characters. Sherlock Holmes as a character was fun to watch especially at the ending - which I can’t tell you here! By the way, the movie ended at 10:10 PM so all of us were tired and sleepy on the way home from SM.

***As of this writing, I am 5 days away from turning legal. I’ll be making my birthday wishlist anytime before Friday :)

CHRISTMAS VACATION 2011

As the title says, I had a very wonderful Christmas / New Year at Singapore where I stayed for 20 days from December 18 to January 7. During the vacation, my family went to Resorts World Genting in Malaysia to celebrate the New Year. When I returned to Manila last Satuday morning, my dad and I headed to my lola’s house in Cavite to spend the weekend with them.

Some of the highlights of the vacation in SG:

  • Watched Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in Golden Village Cinema

  • Got a haircut for the second time in a year

  • Shopping + bonding moments with mom at Bugis, Vivo City, and Ion Orchard

  • Pigged out on KFC and their really big chicken without the famous gravy

  • Played Tap Tap on mom’s iPhone until the break of dawn

  • Christmas at Marina Bay Sands

  • Calories galore - Nutella, Doritos, Cheetos, Ruffles…

  • Texas Chicken <3 (Does it still exist in PH?)

Meanwhile, here are some of the highlights during the Genting holiday (Dec. 31 - Jan. 2)

  • Hopped on the bus from SG to Malaysia at 10 PM of December 30

  • The bus we rode was so cold we were freezing

  • Ate thrice at Merry Brown and fell in love with their food :)

  • Watched a 4D theater (forgot the title)

  • Stayed in First World Hotel @ Resorts World

  • Got to watch Picture This on cable

  • Made a wish on the wishing well

  • Watched fireworks on New Year’s Eve

  • Finished a whole pint of Baskin and Robbins ice cream ;)

  • The first New Year’s Eve without a countdown + fireworks </3

Facebook friends, here’s a little sneek peek of what I did last vacation. Gonna upload them by tomorrow hehe.  Forgive me for the crappy editing of the photos :P

December 25 -  Dinner at Makansutra and Marina Bay Sands

December 31 - January 2: Resorts World Genting

The best thing about this vacation is being with my parents for Christmas and New Year, the first time since 2005. Beginning in 2006, I wasn’t able to be with my dad since he went to SG a few days before while my mom followed him in July 2010. I’m thankful for this tremendous opportunity to make our family complete once again in time for the holidays.

And before the vacation ended, I got a new phone. Lo’ and behold….it’s the first Blackberry Bold! I wanted a Blackberry Curve 8520 but it wasn’t available at the mobile store so mom decided to buy me the BB Bold instead because of the big keypad and stuff. Until now I haven’t decided what to name her - any cool name would do!
